Cooley Gallery shows work of Sonia
Boyce
This spring the Douglas F. Cooley Memorial Art
Gallery presented Recent Sonia Boyce: La, La, La, an exhibition of photographs,
collages, films, prints, drawings, and an installation, all from the 1990s,
by the British Afro-Caribbean artist Sonia Boyce. Boyces work questions
racial stereotypes in the media and in day-to-day life. The exhibition
juxtaposed her works with the music and photographs of Choral 2, an installation
recreated with the assistance of two Portland choirs. Susan Fillin-Yeh,
the Anne and John Hauberg director of the Cooley Gallery, and Marcus Verhagen,
a British art historian and former member of the Reed faculty, co-curated
the exhibition.
