Bay Area

Boston
Boston alumni are currently forming a new chapter committee to plan local events. Anyone willing to help rejuvenate the Boston chapter should call Greg Lam at 413/644-9032 or email

New York
The New York chapter recently toured the Cloisters, the Metropolitan Museum of Art's branch devoted to the art and architecture of medieval Europe. Afterwards, they held a potluck picnic on the museum grounds in Fort Tryon Park. Portland
The Portland chapter was busy this summer with commencement and reunion activities. The annual ice cream social, the graduating senior reception held at the Woodstock Wine and Deli, and the spring feeding frenzy were all well attended. Participating students were well fed and very appreciative.

Rainier
The social highlight of the summer was a picnic and barbecue at Magnuson Park, where alumni, family, and friends gathered with grills, games, and guitars. The annual chapter general meeting will be held August 9 at the home of Peter Mason '79. All Rainier chapter members are invited to attend and participate in the election of new officers. The Reed Brew Pub Fan Club of Seattle and the REEDing group continue to meet regularly. Check the Rainier chapter's web site (

Southern California
The southern California chapter is holding its annual picnic September 19 from noon to 4 p.m. at Carlson Park in Culver City. The chapter's book group meets the second Sunday of each month at 3 p.m. The group is currently reading Toni Morrison's Beloved for August and Herman Hesse's The Glass Bead Game for September. Washington, D.C.
The Washington, D.C., chapter celebrated the Fourth of July at a Prince William Cannons baseball game, which was followed by a spectacular fireworks display. For information on upcoming chapter events, call David Baxter '87 at 410/325-4038 or email

OTHER GATHERINGS
In April approximately 25 Reed alumni, family, and friends in the Minneapolis, Minnesota, area gathered at the home of Tom Cobb '93 and Kevin Francis '92. Alumni from the class of 1948 to the class of 1994 enjoyed reminiscing over a potluck dinner.

Alumni in the Boulder, Colorado, area made their annual pilgrimage to Mijbani vegetarian Indian restaurant in early August for an evening of exotic food and mingling with other mile-high Reedies.
