Reed's Archivists
Dorothy O. Johansen '33, 1969-85
Reed history professor whose interest in the history of Reed College was a driving force in the development of the college's archival collection. She spent many years working on a comprehensive history of Reed College, a work that was never completed. She died in 1999.
Florence Walls Lehman '41, 1986-93
After her retirement as director of alumni relations, she assumed the post of archivist and was known by many for her vast knowledge of Reed, and especially its alumni. After she resigned due to ill health, she continued to work part time as donor prospect researcher in the development office. She died in 1998.
Marilyn Kierstead, 1993-present
She first came to the Reed library in 1978 as reader services librarian, and she was appointed special collections librarian in 1993 when the library assumed responsibility for archives. In this capacity, she oversees not only the archives but also the rare book and manuscript collections. She is also in charge of general preservation activities.
