The Salon Series

The Reed Poetry Salon for 2015-2016 invites four organizations or structures to present on their mission objective, work, and related projects. Each of these structures exist as vital, invigorating pushes to expand the notion of what comprises a literary community, what makes a book, what makes a book visible, and what work is to be done living and loving books within a capitalist framework.

Spring 2016 Schedule

Thursday, February 18
4:30 PM

Curated by poet Stacey Tran and dancer Danielle Ross, Pure Surface brings movement, text, and film artists together to create and present short-duration collaborative performance scores. How do the things that move us move with each other? How do we activate and encourage cross-disciplinary practice and performance? Pure Surface carves out a space for play and a room for experimentation that brings dance, writing, and film communities together.

Stacey Tran edits a small poetry press, Poor Claudia. Writing and other projects can be found at www.staceytran.com. Danielle Ross is a Portland-based performer and choreographer. Ross' works have included Make The Air Thick, Home/Body, To Remember Is To Jump Around There and most recently, Togetherness, a collaboration with Stacey Tran. Aside from creating her own work, Ross has worked with Linda Austin, Dawn Stoppiello and Zoe/Juniper. She is one of the founders of FRONT, a newspaper dedicated to contemporary dance and performance and on the board of the Creative Music Guild.

Fall 2015 Schedule

This fall our two invited guests are local print heroes: Publication Studio and Division Leap.

Thursday, October 15
4:30 PM

Publication Studio prints and binds books one at a time on-demand, creating original work with artists and writers they admire. They use any means possible to help writers and artists reach a public: physical books; a digital commons (where anyone can read and annotate their books for free); eBooks; and unique social events with writers and artists in many cities. They attend to the social life of the book. Founded in Portland in 2009, Publication Studio is a laboratory for publication in its fullest sense—not just the production of books, but the production of a public. This public, which is more than a market, is created through physical production, digital circulation, and social gathering. Together these construct a space of conversation, which beckons a public into being. Publication Studio, Portland, is co-directed by Antonia Pinter and Patricia No. Pinter is an artist and publisher. She is currently working on an artist book and bibliography entitled Women’s Autobiographical Artists’ Books. No is a writer, editor and publisher. She is also the founder/editor of the literary journal Weekday.
