Outreach Programs
Middle School Outreach
Since 1998, Reed has hosted a day-long program for Oregon and Washington middle school students and their parents and teachers. We welcome 6th through 8th grade students who are eager to investigate seriously a particular topic, and to share their ideas with fellow students and adults. In particular, we hope to include students who may not usually have access to or take advantage of such enrichment opportunities.
The annual interdisciplinary symposium explores a particular theme through a variety of perspectives. Following a keynote address, participants meet in small groups led by Reed faculty members and current students to discuss aspects of the day's topic. Most of the workshops address students and parents/teachers separately. Morning refreshments and lunch are included in the day's activities.
While we request a registration fee of $20 per family (with fee waiver for teachers bringing students), we are happy to waive the fee automatically for those families for whom it presents a hardship.
