FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
EXHIBITION OF CALLIGRAPHIC ARTWORK AT REED COLLEGE
Reed College will host a closing reception and celebration for Signs & Testimonials, an exhibition and installation of calligraphic works and testimonials, on Sunday, June 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Vollum lounge. The reception, which is free and open to the public, will be the only opportunity to view the exhibition. For more information visit http://web.reed.edu/publicevents or call the Reed events hotline at 503/777-7755.
Signs & Testimonials, curated by Georgianna Greenwood ‘60, features artwork and books by Lloyd J. Reynolds, renowned teacher of calligraphy at Reed from 1949 to 1969, and Father Robert J. Palladino, who taught calligraphy at Reed from 1969 to 1985, as well as pieces and testimonials by alumni and friends of Reed who were influenced by the teachings of Reynolds and Palladino. The artworks and testimonial pages use a variety of writing techniques from informal handwriting to formal calligraphy to mechanical type.
Also showing, in the Edith Feldenheimer Gallery in the Reed studio art building, will be Letterform, Text, and Image, an exhibition by Reed book artists who investigate the book as an object of inquiry and a realm of practice, employing original texts, experimental materials, and innovative forms.
