HANDS AROUND TO BE PERFORMED AT REED COLLEGE

Hands Around, a play by Austrian dramatist and novelist Arthur Schnitzler, will be performed Friday and Saturday, November 8, 9, 15, and 16, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, November 10, at 1 p.m. on the Reed College theatre mainstage. The performance, directed by Kathleen Worley, professor of theatre, will cost $5 for the general public, $3 for seniors, and $1 for members of the Reed community. For more information and reservations, please call the Reed theatre box office at 503/777-7284.

Hands Around is a wryly comic merry-go-round of promiscuity involving 10 scenes between interwoven couples engaged in games of romance, status, and chance. Although Schnitzler originally set the play in fin-de-si├Ęcle Vienna, Reed’s production is set in New York City during the "roaring twenties." The play was popularized by Max Ophuls 1950s film La Ronde. The production features a set design by Reed senior Sarah Champ ’03.

Reed College, in Portland, Oregon, is an undergraduate institution of the liberal arts and sciences dedicated to sustaining the highest intellectual standards in the country. With an enrollment of about 1,360 students, Reed ranks third in the undergraduate origins of Ph.D.s in the United States and second in the number of Rhodes scholars from a liberal arts college (31 since 1915).
