GEORGE JAMES AND PETER MASON JOIN REED BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Two new trustees were elected to the Reed College board of trustees at its April meeting. George M. James ’77 has been named a regular trustee and will serve a five-year renewable term, and Peter R. Mason ’79 has been named an alumni trustee and will serve one four-year term.
George M. James ’77 is head of global credit products for Morgan Stanley, in New York. The asset and investment management firm is the second-largest retail broker in the U.S., with more than 560 branches in 25 countries. James has been working with Morgan Stanley since 1981; he was previously head of global fixed income derivatives, based in London, England. He earned a B.A. in mathematics from Reed College in 1977 and an M.B.A. in 1981 from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Peter R. Mason ’79 worked in the software industry from 1982 to 2001, most recently as instructor in the DigiPen Institute of Technology. He also worked as a software designer and engineer at Microsoft, Ultrasoft, and Proprietary Software Systems. Mason, a winner of Reed's alumni program volunteer award in 2000, has been a member of the Reed alumni board since 1998 and also served as a member Reed's National Advisory Council (1994—99) and chair of the Seattle alumni chapter (1997—99). He also volunteers as a mentor for Seattle Community Youth at Risk. Mason received a B.A. from Reed in mathematics in 1979 and an M.A. in mathematics in 1982 from the University of Washington.
