John Vergin ’78 will present Winter’s Voice, an annual solo performance of song, poetry, and prose, on Wednesday, December 12, at 7 p.m. in the Reed College chapel. Tickets are available at the door for $10 general admission and $5 for seniors and students. The performance is sponsored by the Reed music department.

Winter’s Voice is an observance of the season of winter and the celebration of Christmas. From plain-song of the Middle Ages, to the texts of Shakespeare, to his own current original works, Vergin offers an interweaving of elements, sacred and secular, to honor the season. Vergin sings, accompanies himself on the folk harp and also performs poetry and prose.

For many years Vergin has been an active member of Portland’s theatre and classical music communities. Recently, he wrote the music for the Clasical Greek Theater’s production of the Bacchae and performed in Mock’s Crest’s production of the Gilbert and Sullivan musical Yeoman of the Guard. He is also an adjunct faculty member of Reed College’s music department, where he teaches voice.
