LECTURES BY RUSSIAN SCHOLAR AND NOVELIST AT REED
Scholar Anna Yatsenko will speak at Reed on "Russian Verb Aspect" on Friday, April 11, at noon in ETC 208. Novelist Gary Shteyngart will present "On the Future of the Immigrant Novel" on Tuesday, April 15, at 4:30 p.m. in Reed’s psychology auditorium. Yatsenko, professor at Herzen University, St. Petersburg, and the University of Texas—Austin, is the author of Concessive Semantics in Contemporary Russian. She was a Russian language scholar at Reed during the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 academic years.
Shteyngart, born in Leningrad and raised in Brooklyn, is the author of The Russian Debutante's Handbook (Riverhead, 2002), a New York Times "Notable Book" for 2002 and winner of the Stephen Crane Award for First Fiction. His work has appeared in the New Yorker, Granta, and many other publications.
Reed College, in Portland, Oregon, is an undergraduate institution of the liberal arts and sciences dedicated to sustaining the highest intellectual standards in the country.
