NOBEL PRIZE WINNER WISLAWA SZYMBORSKA'S POETRY TO BE READ AT REED
Joanna Trzeciak, the translator of Noble Prize-winning poet Wislawa Szymborska, will present "The Unthinkable is Thinkable: Selections from Szymborska’s Miracle Fair" on Thursday, February 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Reed College’s psychology auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Reed events hotline at 503/777-7755.
The most recent volume of Szymborska's poetry, Miracle Fair, samples her full range of major themes: the ironies of love, the wonders of nature's beauty, and the illusory character of art. Szymborska's new work has been described as "that of a gentle subversive, self-deprecating in its wit, yet graced with a gift for coaxing the extraordinary out of the ordinary."
Joanna Trzeciak's translations have appeared in the New Yorker and the Atlantic. She lives in Chicago.
