COMPOSER JOHN VERGIN PRESENTS WINTER'S VOICE
Performer, composer, and writer John Vergin 78 will present his annual seasonal offering, Winter's Voice, on Friday, December 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Reed College chapel. The performance is free for members of the Reed community, $10 for general admission, and $5 for students and seniors. Tickets will be available at the door. For more information, call the Reed events hotline at 503/777-7755.
Through an intricate blend of song, poetry, and prose, Winter's Voice observes and celebrates both winter and Christmas. Vergin performs a diverse selection of pieces, with works ranging from medieval Latin hymns and Shakespearean lyrics to contemporary holiday songs. In addition, he includes material of his own composition.
Vergin works in Portland as a singer, actor, and composer. Recently, he wrote music for Classic Greek Theatre's production of Sophocles' Oedipus at Colonus, and the Reed performance of Molière's the Imaginary Invalid. Currently, he is composing music for the Tygre's Heart production of Twelfth Night, scheduled to open in January. He is also a part-time instructor at Reed College, where he teaches voice.
