GARY SAUL MORSON TO LECTURE AT REED
Literary scholar Gary Saul Morson, Northwestern University Frances Hooper Professor of the arts and humanities, will speak on "How Much Do Dead Souls Weigh?" at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, in the Reed College psychology auditorium. The event, sponsored by Reed's Russian department, is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Reed events line at 503/777-7755.Gary Saul Morson, who is also professor of Slavic languages and literatures at Northwestern University, won the Rene Wellek award from the American Comparative Literature Association for his latest book Narrative and Freedom: The Shadows of Time. Other works by Morson include Mikhail Bakhtin: Creation of a Prosaics, which he co-wrote with Caryl Emerson, The Boundaries of Genre ,and Hidden in Plain View: Narrative and Creative Potentials in War and Peace.
