Mary Ruwart, libertarian speaker for more than a decade, holds the position of senior research scientist at the Upjohn Company of Kalamazoo, Michigan, where she is currently developing new AIDS therapies. She was a contender for the 1992 Libertarian Vice Presidential nomination. This acclaimed political activist has been profiled in publications including American Men and Women of Science, World's Who's Who of Women, International Leaders in Achievement, and Community Leaders of America. Ruwart is the author of the recently published book Healing Our World: The Other Piece of the Puzzle, which explains how basing social action on the same principles that govern individual relationships can create a win-win situation of world peace and unity.
One of the main ideas of the book is that if individuals wish to change the world, they must first learn to change themselves.
Joseph Terrano, Visions Magazine, praised her book: "Mary Ruwart has written what may be the most important book of this decade. . . It will challenge everything you know about how we can accomplish our goals of growth and prosperity as a nation of individuals."
Ruwart's lecture is brought to Reed by the REAL Forum, a student organization that is dedicated to providing weekly discussion forums, guest speakers, and a resource for information and outreach on issues pertaining to scientific and rational inquiry, rational self-interest, and market liberalism/libertarianism.
