Reed College hosts Spring Canyon Day on April 17
WHO: All individuals or groups interested in assisting with the watershed restoration process at Reed College are invited to attend Canyon Day. Participants should bring gloves and dress in attire that is appropriate for the weather. Tools, training, food, and fun will be provided.
WHAT: Canyon Day is a semi-annual event that gives students, faculty, staff, and friends of Reed College the opportunity to learn about and help restore the Reed Canyon, which provides twenty-one acres of high quality wildlife habitat in the midst of the city of Portland. Canyon Day participants will plant native vegetation and remove invasive plant species to assist in improving the canyon, which has been identified in the Johnson Creek Basin Protection Plan as "the only naturally occurring pond (or lake) remaining in the inner-city area."
WHEN: Saturday, April 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
WHERE: The Reed College Waterfall, just north of the Fish Ladder.
CONTACT: For more information about Canyon Day, contact Zachariah Perry, canyon supervisor, at ( 503) 572-8636 or zac@reed.edu. To learn about the Canyon itself, visit http://web.reed.edu/canyon.
