Improvisational jazz pianist Larry Karush performs in concert on Friday, March 26
Who: Acclaimed pianist Larry Karush '68 appears in a solo performance of his own improvisations and original compositions, incorporating elements of jazz, world music, and new music.
When: 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 26
Location: Kaul Auditorium, Reed College, 3203 SE Woodstock Blvd., Portland

Larry Karush, composer and improvisational pianist, has his musical roots in jazz, African percussion, twentieth century western music, and the music of northern India.
In addition to a recent Guggenheim Fellowship in music composition, Karush has received grants for his creative work from the New York Foundation for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts/Arts International, Meet the Composer, and the California Arts Council.
Critics say Karush's music is "elegant and earthy . . . his music travels around the world carving out some real poetry" (Cadence). Don Heckman of the Los Angeles Times calls Karush's musical vision "one of the most fascinating in current jazz," and the Durban Natal Mercury (South Africa) says Karush is "harmonically on the edge."
Karush's concert is sponsored by the Reed College music department.
