John Vergin presents "December's Tale," a seasonal celebration of words and music, at Reed College, December 13


WHAT

John Vergin presents his annual performance of "December's Tale," a solo musical performance incorporating prose and poetry to tell a story beginning Christmas Eve and ending Christmas night. An atmospheric homage to winter and Christmas, "December's Tale" includes medieval song, Vergin's musical settings of verse by Shakespeare and English poet John Clare, and Vergin's original work, both musical and poetic. Vergin graduated from Reed in 1978 and has long been an active member of the Portland theater and classical music communities in a broad range of roles as composer, recitalist, teacher, soloist, chorus leader, and enthusiastic performer in Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. He received the 2002 Drammy Award for his original music for Classical Greek Theater's production of "The Bacchae."
