A native of Louisiana, Denise VanLeuven received her Master of Music from Southern Methodist University in piano performance and piano pedagogy, where she was the assistant to Louise Bianchi. She has studied accompanying and chamber music with Martin Katz, Gilbert Kalish, Gibner King and Edith Kilbuck.

Since arriving in Portland in 1978 she has enjoyed collaborating with many singers and instrumentalists, appearing at Summer Repertory Onstage, Peter Britt Music Festival, and "Meet the Composers Series" at Merkin Hall. She has worked with the new music ensemble Fear No Music, Vocal Arts Quartet and Portland Repertory Singers.

Denise has taught piano at Reed College and accompanied students on Friday @ Four recitals since 1979. She has also taught at Lewis and Clark College and Portland State University.
