Ancient Greek Theatre  (The Libation Bearers, The Furies) to newly created musical theatre (Claus) and opera (Lucy’s Lapses, Final Quartet), Ms. Irvin has extensive credits as both musician and actor.  Trained as a classical musician, but with a passion for musical theatre Ms. Irvin delights in crossing over between the two worlds.  Her credits include award winning performances in Sweeney Todd (Mrs. Lovett), and The Threepenney Opera  (Mrs. Peachum).  In addition, she has appeared in Carousel  (Nettie),   Man of LaMancha  (Housekeeper) ,  TheMerry Widow  (Proskovia),  and  The Student Prince  (Duchess) at Portland Opera.  Musical Theatre roles include Florence Foster Jenkins in Glorious! , Bloody Mary in South Pacific, Sister Hubert in Nunsense,  the Nurse in Sunday in the Park with George  and others too numerous to mention.  In addition to her work on stage, Ms. Irvin has been a featured soloist with Portland Symphonic Choir (St. Matthew Passion, Lord Nelson Mass), Choral Arts Ensemble (Mozart Requiem, Mass in C-Beethovin), and the Portland Youth Philharmonic (The Messiah).  Not limiting her work to live performance, Ms. Irvin has appeared in several feature films as well as television movies and commercials.

Barbara  currently teaches voice  at Reed College (prior to that at Pacific University and Portland State University) and enjoys sharing her experience and knowledge with her Reed students who keep her on her toes –laughing, crying, and working together to discover how it is we create something special with music…and how to use our voices to share our gifts with others.
