Peer Mentor Program
Orientation 2007 Retreat
August 21
Please register online by July 1.
Reed’s Peer Mentor Program offers a resource for students who are interested in connecting with upper-class students through engaging in dialogue about racial/ethnic and economic diversity, along with the various intersecting dynamics such as religion, sexual orientation, and gender. The intent of this program is to provide a venue for students to address how one’s affiliation, or lack of affiliation, with particular identities shapes his or her experience at Reed intellectually and socially.
Students who have signed up for this program are invited to attend a one-day retreat August 21, the day before orientation, where students will meet their mentors, along with some staff and faculty. A central focus of this retreat will be for students to get to know one another, and to learn about the various campus resources in a more intimate setting prior to the start of orientation.
The peer mentor retreat is particularly useful for students who would describe themselves as being a bit on the quiet side, students eager to meet their peers, and for students who have questions about adjusting to the Reed culture. The purpose of the retreat is to create a sense of connection among a diverse body of students; who have an expressed interest in connecting with peers, who identify with underrepresented constituencies on campus; and who hold an interest in exploring issues of racial, economic, religious, and gender diversity, along with numerous other concerns.
