USPS First Class (1 oz letter 42 ¢)

Domestic: 3 to 6 day delivery. Cost based on weight, shape and size. Max weight 12.9 0z.  www.usps.com.When a First Class package weighs 13 oz or more it becomes  Priority Mail .

International Air Mail: 7-10 day delivery, no tracking, no guarantee. 

  • Postcards:  72¢ to Mexico & Canada/ all other countries 94¢
  • Letters: 72¢ for first ounce to Mexico and Canada. all other countries 94¢ first ounce

USPS Priority Mail 

  • Expedited first-class
  • Usually delivered in 2-3 days but no guarantee
  • The post office delivers on Saturdays and delivers to P.O. boxes and street addresses
  • Costs:
  •  $4.80 for a flat rate envelope
  • $9.80 regular flat rate box
  • $10.95 large flat rate box

USPS International Priority Mail

  •     usually delivers in 4-6 days
  •     not available to all countries 
  •     Costs:
  •    flat rate envelopes, Canada & Mexico $9.95 / all other countries served $11.95
  •    regular flat rate box, Canada & Mexico $23.95 / all other countries served $38.95
  •    large flat rate box , canada & Mexico $29.95 / all other countries served $ 49.95 
  •    customs declarations required for all non document items and on printed matter over 1 lb. 

 

NEXT-DAY SERVICES

If mailing to a PO BOX address,  use USPS Express Mail

Cost:

  • Domestic flat rate envelopes $16.50
  • International flat rate envelope $23.95 to Canada & Mexico / $25.96 all other countries served 
  • Fastest service available to PO Box addresses
  • Goes out at 3.30 p.m. Usually a 2 day delivery sent from Reed
  • Use for all domestic and international  PO BOX addresses . (DHL can be used for many International PO BOX addresses as long as a recipient phone number and /or email address is provided on the shipping air bill.) 

Fed-Ex priority overnight:

  • Next morning by 10 AM delivery  street addresses
  • Goes out at 3:30 p.m.
  • Costs as little as $5.00  for a half pound letter to any street address in U.S.
  • extra fee for Saturday delivery

UPS Next-Day: 

  • Next day noon delivery to  street addresses
  • Goes out at 2:30 p.m.
  • prepaid next day envelope $12.00 flat rate
  •  extra fee for Saturday delivery 
  • Reed Mail Services does not use UPS INTERNATIONAL

 

TWO- AND THREE-DAY SERVICES

Federal Express priority next day service: Our Fedex contract has set the Priority Next day rates very nearly as low as their 2-3 day rates. 

UPS 2-Day Air

This service is guaranteed to arrive at any U.S. street address on the second business day after sending (for example, sent Thursday, arrives Monday).

Conditions of mailing

  • Can be sent to a post office rural route address
  • Cannot be sent to a post office box number
  • UPS goes out at 2:30 p.m. every weekday afternoon
  • UPS does not work weekends, Items sent Friday arrive the following Tuesday
  • domestic use only

UPS 3-Day

  • UPS 3-Day service is for packages to street addresses
  • It is less expensive than UPS 2-Day
  • Cost is based on weight and destination
  • domestic use only

 

 

PARCEL SERVICES

USPS parcel service

Parcel post is less expensive than UPS for deliveries in Oregon and Washington state. This service can use USPS insurance.

UPS parcel service

Within Oregon, UPS ground is effectively a next-day service. We have seen parcels arrive even to California and Washington state the next day. The East Coast takes 5-7 days. Cost depends on destination and weight. All packages are insured for $100 automatically and can be insured for more affordably.

 

OTHER SERVICES

USPS certified mail / return receipt

Using certified mail gives you legal proof that a piece was sent on a certain day to a certain address. There is also a number associated with the piece to aid in tracking, though the post office has not computerized their service and it takes a long time to get results. With certified mail you can get, for an extra fee, a return receipt showing that it was delivered. This service is available in the United States only.

Certified mail costs $2.70 plus the regular postage. A return receipt costs $2.20 in addition to the certified fee. ex. a 1 oz letter

sent certified with return receipt costs $5.32 

Many domestic and international services allow you to get proof of delivery. Electronic proof of delivery is free with certified and registered mail online at www.usps.com. A physical return receipt costs $2.15 and shows that someone at the delivery address signed for the piece. For extra charges, you can get the time and date of delivery, or you can get delivery restricted to only the addressee, who must have proof of identification.

USPS registered mail(Cannot be sent from Reed Mail Services)

It is an obsolete service. You can achieve the same results using a DHL, UPS or FEDEX  next day service. 

USPS insurance

First class and parcel post pieces can be insured through the USPS insurance. Insured peices cannot be tracked. The USPS insurance claims process is arcane and kafkaesque. If you need to ship a valuable item, better insurance and tracking can be purchased though UPS, FEDEX or DHL
