Allen Ginsberg reads Howl and other poems at Reed College
In February 1956, during a hitch-hiking trip from Berkeley to the Pacific Northwest with fellow-poet Gary Snyder ’51, Allen Ginsberg gave a poetry reading at Reed College at which he read “Howl” and seven other poems.
Listen to a lecture given by Stuart Brand, author of "Whole Earth Discipline: An Ecopragmatist Manifesto." The lecture, titled "Green Biotech, Green Slums, Green Nukes, and Green Geoengineering," was partly sponsored by the Reed College Environmental Studies Program.
The Visiting Writer Series, sponsored by the Department of English, intends to bring interesting and diverse writers of prose and poetry to Reed to enhance the courses with readings and discussions. The collection includes lectures by Stephen Elliot, Marc Acito, and Dorianne Laux, amongst many others.
