Host Family Program

The Host Family Program at Reed College allows individuals or families in Portland to serve as an American "friend" to an international student attending Reed. This opportunity for intercultural exchange helps create a mutually rewarding relationship in which the family and the student can learn from each other.

Students are matched with a family during the summer, allowing for the two to begin communicating prior to the student's arrival on campus. The program includes a few on-campus events, but most of the interactions during the school-year are coordinated independently between the student and the family.

International students at Reed live on campus for at least their first year, so families that participate in the program are not expected to provide housing for the students.
