Through this program, students study in Argentina’s vibrant capital city of Buenos Aires. Classes in both Spanish and English are offered through the program, and students may also enroll in the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Argentina, a leading university enrolling about 22,000 students. The School for Field Studies in Australia has a focus on Tropical Rainforest Studies. Although this is particularly suited to students interested in Biology and Environmental Studies, SFS programs offer ample resources and opportunities for students in all disciplines. The SFS center for Rainforest Studies is at the edge of the Atherton Tablelands, surrounded by World Heritage forests, farmland, and tropical hills. Students will look at various policies, using field research, collaboration with local landholders and environmental organizations, and a student directed project to explore possibilities for this area of the country. SFS gives Reed students an interdisciplinary approach to these topics, overlapping with questions about public policy, economic analysis of biological resource issues, and "Direct Research" projects where students carry out independent field work. SFS offers study abroad programs in Bhutan, a mountain kingdom where change is afoot. Few foreigners have ever seen Bhutan's small villages and stunning Buddhist monasteries - it wasn't until 1974 that the country opened its borders to tourists. Based in Paro, students will learn how biodiversity is protected and traditional rural lifestyles are maintained. Participants experience conservation and environmental issues against the backdrop of vibrant culture and Buddhist philosophy, gain an in-depth understanding of local ecosystems, and wrap up the semester with an extensive field trip.

School for Field Studies - Cambodia

Conservation efforts are deeply connected to Cambodian community livelihoods across Tonle Sap Lake and Angkor Wat. Participants in this program will learn about threats to ecosystems and natural resources, environmental governance, and the ethics of conservation and development in this fascinating country. While traveling extensively, students will visit elephant-inhabited forests in Mondulkiri, mountain ecosystems in Kampot, the Vietnamese Mekong Delta, and key sites along the Mekong River. During the final weeks of the semester, students will conduct an extensive research project in the field.

Students who choose to study in Beijing through the Capital Normal University will be directly enrolled, without the aid of a liaison program. Capital Normal was founded in 1954, and is ranked consistently among China's top universities, with around 25,000 enrolled students. This program is recommended to students interested in a driven year or semester of learning Chinese, as well as direct academic and cultural immersion in Beijing. Located in Shanghai, the East China Normal University provides international students a direct exchange program, offering either a semester or year-long enrollment geared towards intensive linguistic and cultural integration. Courses will be taken primarily in Chinese; however, ECNU also offers the Global China Program (GCP) with courses taught in English, as well as introductory-level Chinese language courses for less experienced students. This program is aimed at students looking for intensive study of the Chinese language with solid work ethics and self-motivation. Since this exchange does not work through a liaison program, integration and academics will be less guided and possibly more intense.

This unique opportunity is offered to Reed students in conjunction with Sarah Lawrence College's program based in Havana. Students take four courses: Spanish, two electives, and a core seminar that focuses on gender, health, education, and sustainable development throughout Cuban society. Students can take classes with Cuban students at the University of Havana, the Instituto Superior de Artes, or at the Fundación del Nuevo Cine Latino-Americano. This program is ideal for students interested in the Spanish language, humanities, social sciences, and the arts. Outside of the classroom, this program offers students opportunities to do fieldwork and internships at various organizations around the country. Students can take advantage of various trips around the country to deepen their understanding of Cuban politics, history and social life.

This program allows students to study in Lille in either an intensive French-only program, or with a more guided curriculum blending courses in both French and English. This program is a great opportunity for both experienced French speakers and relative newcomers to experience the French university system and life in Lille. Through this program, students may choose to spend either a year or semester in France at Lille III (Université Charles de Gaulle). Upon arrival in France, students undergo an expansive 10-day orientation program to assist in immersion and general cultural acclimation. Greece

College Year in Athens

The primary focus of this program is to provide students with first-hand experience with Greece, in its ancient, medieval and modern contexts. For obvious reasons, CYA is an incredible opportunity for students studying classics. Students who study in Greece through CYA will undergo a process of orientation upon arrival, which will acquaint students with staff and faculty, provide information on the program and Greek life, and will introduce the city Athens through planned activities and group outings. All courses will be taught in English, but students are encouraged to study Greek and/or Latin as part of their courseload. In addition to language courses, students can choose from a wide variety of disciplines including as history, religion, philosophy, art history, political science, and more. Program fees cover a mid-day meal at the Academic Center on weekdays, but all other meal accommodations must be procured by the students themselves. In addition to group trips and cultural events, numerous extra-curricular activities and athletics are organized by the program, as are volunteer opportunities. CYA also has an open-door drop-in policy for all types of student support (academic, personal, etc) at the Academic Center. Contrary to its name, this program is offered in both semester and year-long commitments.

Trinity College, the single constituent college of the University of Dublin, was founded in 1592 and is the oldest in Ireland and one of the oldest in Europe. Located in Dublin, the capital of the Republic of Ireland, Trinity College prides itself on its tradition of personal contact between faculty and students encouraged by its collegiate atmosphere. Courses are open to Reed students across a broad spectrum of disciplines with particular interests focused on Irish history, literature, and music. Over four centuries old, Trinity is home to around 15,500 students and offers a vast range of courses and disciplines to be explored and experienced.
Meals are available from three on-campus restaurants, as well as from several student cafes. Trinity offers its students a variety of support services, including counseling and individual tutoring. A week-long orientation period is also provided at the beginning of the academic year for incoming students. There are many campus-wide social events throughout the academic year, and the Global Room is a resource specifically for International Students which hosts events as well as providing support.

Advanced Russian Language and Area Studies Program (RLASP)

The American Councils' Russian Language and Area Studies Program (RLASP) provides intensive, immersion-based language instruction in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Hosted by Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU), this program provides approximately 20 hours per week of in-class instruction in Russian grammar, phonetics, conversation, and cultural studies for a semester, summer, or academic year. Participants also complete coursework in the history and culture of Kazakhstan and may elect to enroll in Kazakh language study. 

Program features include homestays, weekly excursions, travel to other regions outside Almaty, conversation partners, and a wide range of opportunities to volunteer, pursue hobbies and personal interests in a Russian-language context. Participants receive academic credit for the program through Bryn Mawr College. Credited coursework may include such subjects as literature, history, political science, and contemporary society. All courses are taught in Russian by expert faculty with experience teaching foreign students.

This program offers students the opportunity to study in Lebanon at the American University of Beirut. Courses are taught in English, allowing students without prior experience in Arabic a porthole into Lebanese life and culture. Students will undergo an orientation program upon arrival at AUB. This program is notable for its low faculty-student ratio (1:13) and its subsequent small class sizes and intimate atmosphere. There are approximately 1500 international students studying at AUB every year, and the Office of International Programs (OIP) is accordingly developed and supportive. Special events, trips and other social activities are arranged to guide student immersion, and a Student Ambassador program is offered to help students through the first week of classes. Founded in 1969, the Universidad de Monterrey is a private university located in the Mexican province of Monterrey. The university’s study abroad program offers three possible tracks for exchange students. At the heart of this program are the conflicts and synergies of conservation and development in the north Peruvian Amazon region. The program includes a multi-day excursion to the Sacred Valley, the city of Cusco—the hub for visitors to Machu Picchu—and the adjacent Andean highlands. Students learn firsthand about the ecological patterns and processes that underpin the extraordinary biodiversity of the Amazon region along the catchment of the western Amazon River and its tributaries. Students explore biological diversity and conservation, ecological interactions, and the value of ecosystem services, as well as the effects of climate change and land use on regional and global biodiversity and human well-being.

Organization for Tropical Studies - South Africa

Based in Kruger National Park and West Coast National Park, field study and research exercises will expose you to different types of ecosystems, whilst you come to explore the fauna and flora of both the savanna systems and the Cape Floristic Kingdom. You will take four courses: South African Ecosystems and Diversity, Field Research Methods in Ecology, Conservation and Management of Protected Areas in South Africa, and Duke in South Africa: Special Topics in History. Science courses will be taught by OTS faculty and distinguished visiting scientists and conservation practitioners. Prominent South African historians, artists, and cultural theorists will lead the course on History and Culture of South Africa. National Cheng Kung University - Chinese Language Center

The Chinese Language Center, founded in 1956, teaches Chinese as a second language to 1,700 students from 70 different countries during each academic year. Reed students will join small classes of students from beginner to advanced who share a common goal of wishing to communicate in Chinese and learn more about Chinese history and culture. Students live and study in Tainan, the oldest city in Taiwan. Dotted with Taoist and Buddhist temples Tainan provides both a rich cultural history combined with a modern, rapid paced society.

The program explores the human elements of these the complex conservation issues. Our curriculum and research focus on how changes in land use and resource availability in the Tarangire-Manyara ecosystem can be managed to foster the well-being of local communities while safeguarding and promoting biodiversity conservation. Students learn about the socioeconomic, policy, and environmental drivers and implications of demographic change and land reform for wildlife conservation and rural development. Students hear lectures by park wardens, wildlife veterinarians, and field researchers. They also interview Maasai community members about challenges they face by the rapid loss of natural resources.
