Shipper/Receiver with Web Responsibilities

Position Summary

This position is responsible for shipping and receiving all incoming and outgoing bookstore orders including trade books, textbooks, general merchandise and food shipments.  In addition a portion of the responsibilities are centered around updating product information on the website and social networking systems in order to provide Reed students, faculty and staff with the most accurate data as to availability of products and services in the Bookstore.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position, working 37.5 hours per week. Essential Functions

SHIPPING AND RECEIVING:  approximately 80% of time

  • Accurately, efficiently receives all shipments within 1 day of arrival, unless an alternative timeline is communicated in advance. 
  • Count and price all shipments, stock items and or give to the appropriate buyer.
  • Accurately maintains all related paperwork related to shipments.
  • Maintains shipping and receiving information in PRISM. 
  • Follows up with vendors to resolve shipping issues.  Proactively communicates with bookstore buyers know of any problems or issues.
  • Maintains the stockroom in an orderly fashion.
  • Assists with stocking food, books and other merchandise.

WEBSITE MAINTENANCE:  approximately 20% of time

  • As required, maintains the website by updating and uploading images and other files, maintaining on line catalogs, and other similar information.
  • Performs various customer service functions such as directing customers to requested products, providing information on products, taking special orders, and coordinating returns.
  • Purchases special orders, bulk orders, and special event orders as necessary.
  • Provides assistance in other functional areas of the bookstore as assigned such as promotions, special events, open houses, newsletter production, and signage.
  • Establishes and maintains effective and positive communication with the Reed community to determine needs of community members and to provide overall support to the mission of Reed College.

Education and Experience Required

A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, but any combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and abilities required to perform the work can contribute to the individual’s success. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of shipping and receiving software, especially UPS
  • Knowledge of programs related to webdesign such as DreamWeaver and Adobe Creative Suite- in particular, Photoshop.  InDesign is a plus.  Ability to navigate and skilfully link to on-line databases and social networking sites.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple and conflicting requests from coworkers
  • Ability to work efficiently and quickly in order to meet merchandising needs of the bookstore.  Attention to detail is critical.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, vendors, suppliers, and the general public.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. of heavy book cartons.
