Associate Director of Donor Relations

Reed College, one of the country’s leading private liberal arts colleges, invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Director of Donor Relations. Reed is a highly selective liberal arts college that values intellectual achievement and has a strong tradition of alumni involvement and support.

The Associate Director of Donor Relations plays a pivotal role in developing donor communications strategies for Reed College. Reporting to the Director of Donor Relations, the Associate Director will join Reed at an exciting moment, the conclusion of a successful and ambitious comprehensive campaign and the introduction of a new president.

The Associate Director of Donor Relations will be responsible to:

Steward gifts thoughtfully through written materials, events, publications, and activities. Draft stewardship letters for college leaders. Develop annual reporting to donors of major scholarships, lectureships, professorships, and other endowments.

Plan and monitor communications to prospective donors. Help create high-quality marketing materials for fundraising initiatives. Collaboratively conceptualize strategy, conceive new print and web vehicles and write copy for large-scale Annual Fund solicitations, Planned and Major Giving outreach, and general fundraising initiatives.

Work to ensure that fundraising proposals, naming opportunities, gift acceptance procedures, pledge forms, and memoranda of understanding meet the needs of the college and strengthen donor relationships with Reed. Collaborate as necessary with College Relations Information Systems to execute giving and stewardship activities in a donor-centered manner.

Develop and maintain accurate records on scholarship, lectureship, and other endowment funds, coordinating information from the offices of Financial Aid, Business, and the Dean of the Faculty.

Successful applicants will demonstrate: strong writing skills; strong organizational skills; project management experience; attention to detail; ability to work both independently and in a team setting with a high degree of initiative, tact, and professionalism; and facility with technological tools and database systems (experience working with Banner a plus).

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and three years of directly related work experience. Writing samples or assignments may be required.
