Assistant Director of Disability Support Services
Reed College seeks an Assistant Director of Disabilities Support Services for a part-time (0.63 FTE), 9.5-month position during the academic year (mid-August through end of May). This is a Grade E-8 position with a posted full-time salary range of $53,287-$78,331. The starting salary for the part-time position is $33,571.
The Assistant Director of Disabilities Support Services works closely with the Director of Disability Services and with staff, students and faculty to facilitate student success in support of the academic mission of the college. Primary responsibilities include: implementing approved accommodations; working with DSS Director, faculty, and students to coordinate accommodations; maintaining records, documentation, informational materials, database entries, and detailed case notes; maintaining an updated understanding of current practices for disabilities services in higher education; providing consultation with staff, faculty, supervisor, and students regarding disabilities and accommodations; and providing consultation and coaching for students with academic concerns. The Assistant Director of Disabilities Support Services reports to the Director of Disabilities Support Services.
Qualified candidates will have current knowledge of the principles and practices of disabilities support services in higher education and will have demonstrated effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, faculty, and supervisors. The successful applicant will also demonstrate experience with careful, confidential record keeping and strong attention to detail. They will have a record of successful collaboration with students, staff, and faculty and execution of actions and initiatives that demonstrate a professional commitment to issues relating to diversity.
This is a detail-oriented position, requiring meticulous record keeping and careful documentation and tracking of services. The Assistant Director will assist the Director in database management, data entry, record keeping, and maintaining files in a professional manner.
Preferred candidates will have had direct experience working in higher education Disability Services offices and have working knowledge of and/or experience in coordinating and implementing postsecondary DSS services such as, but not limited to: note taking services; accommodated testing and proctoring; student use of smart pens and other assistive technologies; and familiarity with providing alternative text (basic text production and OCR-formatting skills highly desired).
A bachelor’s degree in psychology, disabilities services, education, or a related field, and a minimum of two years experience in higher education support services are required. Preference will be given to candidates with at least three years of experience in higher education, and/or any combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job.
