Audio Visual Technician

Position Summary

This position reports to the Audio-Visual Manager, and has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2013.  The Audio-Visual Technician coordinates and engineers performances in the new Performing Arts Building, opening in fall 2013, and in Kaul Auditorium.   A typical workweek is Thursday through Monday, but days and hours may vary.

Essential Functions

* Acquires, operates, and maintains audio-visual equipment

* Performs sound and lighting operational duties during music, dance, theater performances and lecture events

* Coordinates technical requirements based on performance demands through Reed College offices and external clients

* Arranges equipment delivery, sub-rentals, labor, and electrical requirements

* Acts as house manager and Reed liaison for select performances

* Delivers and sets up equipment in performance and rehearsal spaces for classes and events

* Trains students, staff, and faculty on equipment use and supervises student assistants

* Records performances as requested, delivering finalized media through a variety of technologies

* Assists audiovisual technician and manager in installations of technology in classrooms and provides backup assistance to audiovisual services for classes, events, and summer conferences

* Responsible for covering all events in the Performing Arts Building and other campus events as assigned

 

Qualifications Required

* 3 years of experience as a lead engineer for large-scale performance events

* Ability to work a flexible schedule

* Valid driver’s license

* High school diploma or GED

* Ability to lift/move 70 pounds

 

Preferred Qualifications

* Low voltage installation experience including soldering of cables, connectors and circuit boards

* 2 years of higher education and/or experience working in an academic environment

* Crestron programming knowledge

* Experience with lighting design

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

* Requires comprehensive experience with and understanding of audio engineering, acoustics, and equipment standards

* Comprehensive experience and knowledge of stage and studio lighting

* Experience in electrical distribution, load calculation, and safety standards; knowledge of audio-video hardware and software for recording and editing performances
