In support of this mission, we are seeking a dynamic Animal Colony Lab Technician to join our team.

Position Summary
The Animal Colony Lab Technician is responsible for the care, maintenance and husbandry of rats and pigeons in the animal colonies, and technical support for animal behavior research projects.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position, working 37.5 hours a week beginning August 12, 2013. Starting pay is $17.58/per hour.  Reed College offers a benefits package that is unparalleled. Essential functions

  • Maintaining compliance with federal guidelines concerning the care and use of animals in research
  • Serve as liaison with veterinary staff and with the college Institutional Care and Use Committee
  • Providing technical support for animal behavior research projects, including designing building, programming and repairing customized apparatus for use in animal behavior search projects

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of federal guidelines regarding care and use of animals in research
  • Possess extensive laboratory technical skills including electronics, wood and metalworking
  • Computer hardware and software skills (both Mac and PC systems)

Education and Experience

Training and certification in animal husbandry by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS).
