Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Theatre

Reed College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Theatre, to start at the Assistant Professor level, to begin August 2018. PhD or DFA preferred, MFA considered. We seek an active scholar/artist to join our department of three other scholar/artists in the collaborative running of our new curriculum in our new performing arts building. The successful applicant will have a research focus in an aspect of theatre history and/or performance studies that expands and pushes forward our department offerings and also the field. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in non-Western theatre and performance, Black theatre and performance, and/or postcolonial theatre and performance. The candidate will have a strong research profile in academic writing, as well as in the creation of performance, and will be able to direct or devise large scale performances with students. The candidate will have the promise of outstanding teaching in classroom and studio/laboratory settings, and will be able to teach courses including Acting Laboratory, Directing, a class in the area of their research that is open to undergraduates from across the college, theatre history and/or performance studies, and another studio-based class such as devising or improvisation. We are particularly excited about candidates with innovative approaches to teaching these courses. The candidate will join department colleagues to supervise senior thesis research, writing, and staging projects, as well as co-producing the yearly Reed Theatre season.
