Mail Client Setup for External Email Services

To help reduce spam on the campus network, Reed blocks outgoing email sent on port 25 to off campus email providers while on the wireless and dorm wired networks. This may affect users who try to send email from an off campus email provider such as Gmail or Yahoo with an email client like Thunderbird or Apple Mail. Emails sent from web-based systems like gmail.com and yahoo.com are not affected.

An improperly configured email client may not be able to send email while connected to Reed's network. Most email providers permit outgoing email to be sent from an alternate port and have specific instructions that will guide you through the proper setup.
