Centennial Reunions Young Alumni Career Networking Event

Centennial Reunions Young Alumni Career Networking Event
Wednesday, June 8
7-8:30 p.m., GCC-BCD
RSVP here by 12 p.m. Tuesday, May 31

Join us for networking events at Reunions this June geared toward young alumni.

Two events on Wednesday, June 8:

1. 4-5:30 p.m., Vollum Lounge, Don Asher, '83, Reed's own job and career guru, leads a workshop that is also geared toward new job seekers (or those who haven't been in the job market for very long): Jobs (no, not Steve) 100

2. 7-8:30 p.m. Young Alumni Career Networking in GCC-BCD: Join us for a networking event where alumni, both recent and more seasoned in the mart of economic strife and gain, can mingle, share stories and strategies, and perhaps open doors to new opportunities.

We need to get an early jump on this event by collecting information on the attendees now, and sharing it with everyone else who is attending before June 8. You will get more from this event by RSVPing with the information described below.

Create a brief profile. In that profile, tell us what you seek. Talk about the kind(s) of job and career in which you are interested. Be as specific as possible. Why? Because when your request is specific, it gives the other person in the conversation something to grab. If you say that you're interested in non-profits, and the resource person looking at your profile or engaging you in conversation is a non-profit executive, your efforts may be in vain if you fail to provide more specific information about your desires. Here’s a better profile or introduction: "I'm interested in fund raising for the social justice sector, specifically domestic violence organizations." When you make specific requests, your resource person will be better able to help you.

Concurrently, if you identify as a RESOURCE, let us know with as much specificity as possible what you are interested in offering.

As Don Asher says, "Specific information yields an action item; general information yields a pleasant exchange. There's no job on Wall Street called 'something on Wall Street.'" There are trading, analyst, and sales positions.

For your profile, list your major, where you want to live, and then provide up to two very specific examples:

Name, major, geographic area

I'm interested in non-profit consultancy. I want to do fundraising for arts stuff in the Northwest or I want to do business plans for start up nonprofits in the recycle space.

Deadline for profile submission is Tuesday, May 31. PLEASE submit by the deadline. Use this link to send your RSVP and to paste in your profile. (See the sample profile below and on the RSVP link).

We look forward to seeing you -- and many incredible resource alumni -- on the 8th of June.
