Health Care Matters: Health Care Reform

Health Care Matters: Health Care Reform
Dr. Lloyd Olson & Dr. Jennifer Rupert
Monday, September 28, 2009
6 - 7:30 p.m., Biology 200-A

Join Julie Kern Smith, career services pre-med advisor, Dr. Lloyd Olson '57, and Dr. Jennifer Rupert '90, for the first Health Care Matters event of the year. Lloyd is a former Pediatrician-in-Chief at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.

Health care reform:  what are the issues, why are the arguments so contentious, and why has it taken so long to even getting around to discuss the topic?  If health care reform is to reduce costs, increase coverage to everybody, improve quality and not require a tax increase, where will the money come from? Now here's your opportunity to enter the discussion with the inaugural meeting of the Health Care Matters series for the 2009-2010 school year.

If you are pre-med, or are considering a health care career, don't miss this topical and important discussion.

Dr. Rupert graduated from Reed with a degree in psychology. She took premed courses at Seattle Central Community College after deciding to pursue medicine. She attended U of WA 1997-2001. She worked at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington and Planned Parenthood as research assistant for several years after Reed. She did an OBGYN residency at OHSU 2001-2005, and since 2005, has practiced at Kaiser as an OBGYN. Her focus is on minimally invasive surgery.
