Lutheran Volunteer Corps is a one year service program through which volunteers work for social justice in an urban setting, live in an intentional community and explore living a more simplified lifestyle. Positions span a wide spectrum of job types in direct and indirect service, public policy, and community organizing.
LVC is on a Journey to an Inclusive Community, forming and strengthening alliances among people of many cultures and communities, and intentionally dismantling racism within LVC, the church, and society. LVC welcomes and encourages the participation of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people in all aspects of LVC. LVC Volunteers come from a wide variety of spiritual backgrounds or no background, and do not need to be Lutheran.
Married couples and committed partners are encouraged to apply. While there is no upper age limit, volunteers should be a minimum of 21 years old. Volunteers earn a stipend, receive health insurance, are provided with housing, and have the opportunity to receive an Americorps education award at the end of their year of service.
