If you are interested in business and finance careers, you are invited to attend a breakfast meeting on Tuesday morning, February 17th, with local alumni who work in financial services. Recent graduates and seasoned veterans will be available to talk about various sectors of this industry. Guests for the breakfast are:

  • Yusaf Jawed '91 (political science), managing partner and CEO, Grifphon Asset Management, a local hedge fund specializing in global investment strategies.
  • Provo Roellich '07 (anthropology), portfolio manager at Grifphon.
  • Tony Fisher '80 (economics), financial advisor (formerly managing director in municipal securities), UBS.
  • Michael Anderson '05 (economics), economist, Oregon Economic and Community Development, State of Oregon (formerly, financial advisor at a local investment brokerage).
  • Greg Agamalian '05 (economics), operations group, M Securities, a local Broker Dealer with the M Financial Group.
  • Ray Helterline '72 (economics), principal, Business Transition Services, Inc., specializing in mergers and acquisitions.
Investment banking, asset management, securities trading, and other financial sector jobs have been among the most highly prized entry-level opportunities for graduating students. With financial services in ruins, will there even be opportunities?

Even in good times, to compete for these opportunities required quite a bit of preparation, both in terms of knowledge of the industry and actual experiences.  Top firms have been especially interested in liberal arts students and they also expect certain types of undergraduate experiences (e.g., leadership, internship, quantitative skills development).  While we don't know if things will rebound in the near future, we know that the recruitment cycle for full-time, entry level jobs typically has an early fall deadline for students who are graduating the following May. This is an opportunity for you to learn more and get an earlier start on your preparedness.

To hold a spot at this breakfast, RSVP by NOON on Thursday, February 12. The breakfast will take place on Tuesday the 17th in the new Aspen Conference Room  8 AM sharp. Alumni will give brief talks beginning around 8:10 AM, and they'll be available for Q&A until around 9:30 AM.
