Peter Stockman '77: On Consulting (Part II)
Friday, April 24, 2009 3 - 5 PM
Aspen Dorm Conference Room
In this important session of his ongoing series, Peter focuses on using your summer wisely, specifically preparing for the fall. (Eventhough Peter makes special mention of sophomores and juniors, all are welcome to attend.)
- For sophomores, preparing for summer internship recruiting in the later part of the fall.
- For juniors, preparing for permanent hire recruiting starting as soon as they come back as seniors.
Within the framework above, he will provide:
- An overview of the consulting industry.
- Identifying target consulting firms that match your interests.
- The recruiting process and planning the campaign.
- Collaboration with other students interested in consulting: a good thing, not a bad thing.
- Preparing to talk about yourself.
- Consulting resumes.
- Reviewing your coursework.
- Reviewing your data analysis and report production skills.
* Executing the campaign - By end of summer you will have:
- A consulting resume that has been reviewed by Career Services and/or Stockman.
- A list of targeted consulting firms.
- An understanding of the timing of the recruiting process for each target firm.
- A contact person at each target firm who will answer your questions.
- A pro forma schedule for the fall that maps out important, immovable academic commitments relative to likely dates of recruiting events (such as interviews).
The lecture portion of the session will last 90 minutes with 30 minutes for Q & A. Peter stresses that summer is an invaluable time to prepare and he wants to help you get set up well!
Peter will also be available for 1:1s and resume reviews. He will be available Saturday afternoon, April 25th. If you are interested in an individual session, please let us know as soon as possible. At this posting, we do not have a firm time on Saturday, so if you are interested in an individual meeting, anticipate needing to be flexible on time.
