United Nations - Policy and Opportunity

Please join Dr. Yunae Yi, Senior Programme Officer at the United Nations Environment Programme, Nairobi, Kenya to learn more about the UN and international environmental programs through the UN. She will give a short talk on her work and answer questions on the UN, as well as address students' interests and preparation for work in international affairs. 

Dr. Yunae Yi is a South Korean who has a PhD in consumption economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She was a researcher on labor, gender and poverty issues at the Social Science Research Council and Columbia University in New York. She has worked in various UN offices for the last 15 years on policy advice, performance evaluation, budget assessments, quality assurance, and standard setting for UN work.  For that, she has acquired broad understanding of UN planning, programming and operation process, and has consulted with intergovernmental bodies of the UN, such as the General Assembly.  Currently, she is a senior programme officer at the United Nations Environment Programme, located in Nairobi, Kenya, working on environmental, social and economic safeguarding for the work of the organization.  She will discuss how to bring environmental sustainability concerns within the framework of sustainable economic development.
