Davis Projects for Peace: Info Session
Davis Projects for Peace: Info Session
Noon, Thursday, November 6, 2008
SEEDS, 28 West
For the second year in a row, Reed College has been invited to participate in the “Davis Projects for Peace” program. Funded by Kathryn Wasserman Davis, a lifelong internationalist and philanthropist, the project invites undergraduate students (including current seniors) to design “grassroots projects for peace.” The projects judged to be the most promising will be funded at a level up to $10,000 each.
This info session is for anyone who is interested in learning how to shape a proposal. Bring ALL your questions and SEEDS and career services staff will be on hand to answer them! And, we will serve you lunch!
The Davis Foundation’s program guidelines do not attempt to define “grassroots projects for peace.” Rather, the foundation hopes to encourage creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship in the design of projects. Specific projects may be undertaken anywhere in the world, including in the United States. Groups of students from the same campus, as well as individual students, may submit proposals. The projects must be capable of completion during the summer of 2009.
Reed College has been invited to participate in the program by nominating one proposal to the Davis foundation. Students (either individually or in groups) can submit proposals on or before January 26th, 2009, to Career Services (Greywood). A committee of faculty and staff and students will review the proposals and will then recommend the most promising proposal for nomination to the Davis Foundation. For more information on this opportunity and the application procedures, we encourage you to attend an information session on November 6, 12 noon, at 28 West (the home of SEEDS, community safety, and residential life). If you can’t make it, email career.services@reed.edu or seeds@reed.edu for more information. To review successful proposals from last year, visit http://www.kwd100projectsforpeace.org .
