LOCATION:

Crystal Springs Cr. starts from large springs located above Reed College and stretches about 2.25 mi. to the confluence of Crystal Springs and Johnson Cr. located at SE Linn and 21st street.

HISTORY:

In the late 50's and early 60's Winter Steelhead from Alsea, Bonneville and Roaring River fish hatcheries were released into Crystal Springs Creek. Between 1958 and 1961 Crystal Springs Creek had an egg take station for Steelhead. The station was located at Eastmoreland golf course in 1958 and 1959 and in Johnson Creek Park in 1960 and 1961.

Egg incubator boxes containing steelhead and coho have been in operation on Crystal Springs Creek since 1983. In 1991 the first incubator box for spring Chinook went into operation. Most of the egg incubation boxes were located in the lower section of Crystal Springs Creek.

Habitat work was conducted in 1987 near Westmoreland Park consisting of log structures and bank stabilization. In 1988 habitat work was conducted near Reed College again in the form of log structures and bank stabilization.
