Phylogney of Cannibalistic SpidersThe Arachnida family includes other species, aside spiders, who perform sexual cannibalism, including scorpions.
Most species of spiders are members of the Araneae family. In the majority of papers that have informed this website, studies were done on spiders of the Araneomorphae family, although there are cases of sexual cannibalism throughout the other branches of Araneae. The orb-web spider A. keyserlingi pictured in the "female choice" model are within the Orbiculariae clade, while the M. vatia (Economic model) are members of Dionycha. All phylogenetic trees pictured above courtesy of Tree of Life Web Project (tolweb.org).
