Week 5
Behavioral Genetics. Rover/Sitter

LINK to FLY LAB HANDOUT

GENERAL EXPECTATIONSpath

Students will work in pairs to quantify crawling distance for Drosophila larvae on normal food substrate.
This lab will be a bit messy and smelly (yeast paste) so dress accordingly.
While this particular lab exercise does not leave a lot of room for student creativity, there are many additional experiments to be done with this system. One could also consider crossing these stocks with other Drosophila strains and mutants for interesting independent projects.

TO BE EVALUATED

All raw data for the primary experiment MUST be entered to the class spread sheet before you leave lab today. There will be no statistical analysis this week.

The writeup for this lab will be combined with next week.

Every student is expected to keep their own lab notebook and not rely on the notebook of a labmate, however when data is recorded it need not be copied, a clear statement of where the data is recorded is sufficient.
Lab notebooks will be evaluated!
