Reed College Winter Shadows are a chance for currently enrolled Reedies to spend an intense period during winter break learning more about a career path of interest.

June–October 5 Open registration for shadow sponsors
October 19 Application deadline for students
October 28 Decisions made by sponsors; students notified
October 31 Career Advancement Fund applications due, if applicable
November 1 Career Advancement Fund decisions made
January 2–15 Winter shadows happen

What is a Winter Shadow?

A Winter Shadow is a short-term (approximately 2–10 days) period of intense learning about an occupation of interest, a job shadow. Check out some previous Shadow experiences.

What will I do?

You will experience a variety of activities during Shadows, possibly including:

  • Exploring career paths within a company/organization
  • Having informational interviews with employees
  • Observing interactions with customers and clients
  • Meeting with decision makers
  • Touring facilities
  • Attending staff meetings
  • Assisting with projects or tasks
