Skeletal Structures

For this assignment, you will explore the skeletal structure of architecture, machinery, or organic forms. Formally the work will express the dynamics of a self-supporting structure, showing patterning, movement, rhythm, and progression. Both the structure and the negative space it defines will be perceived and inhabited mentally and physically. The material of the sculpture is as much a part of its subject as are the techniques used to craft it. You will learn fabrication methods such as wood bending and lamination, learn to understand the basic structural possibilities of wood, and how to use electric hand tools and the shop equipment. Various fasteners and joinery methods will be demonstrated.
