About Us
For over a decade, the Reed College Admission Office has made it a priority to assist and encourage students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds in applying to Reed. Swati Shrestha ’10 and Nora Jones ’12 are the current coordinators of multicultural recruitment at Reed. If you have any questions about multicultural admission, please feel free to contact either or both of us.

I am from a lot of places. I’m Nepali, but was born in Virginia and raised in Singapore. Growing up in Singapore was like growing up in a microcosm of the world. I had the opportunity to live and learn with people from all different backgrounds – not unlike my experience at Reed! I graduated from Reed in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. I wrote my thesis on The Namesake, by Jhumpa Lahiri, and Londonstani, by Gautam Malkani. While at Reed, I made pies with the Ladies Pie Society, took classical Indian voice lessons, read a lot of comics in the MLLL, discovered I was kind of a sci-fi nerd, learned to fence, and performed kuchipudi dances at Asian Student Union celebrations. Moving across the Pacific Ocean to go to college was kind of a harrowing experience, but it was definitely a great choice. If you want to talk to someone about how to find a college that fits you, regardless of whether or not you can visit, (or anything else) shoot me an e-mail!
