Honor Principle

Reed’s Honor Principle shapes our community and the capacity of each student to thrive within it. More than a code of conduct, this shared responsibility for academic integrity and for each other requires that we evaluate our conduct in relation to the community and take responsibility for our actions.

Reed College students in Honor Council

For the student body, the reflection and discussion that emerges as a result of living by the Honor Principle creates a uniquely cohesive community at Reed. Students are attentive to each other’s interests and priorities to ensure that everyone’s rights are respected. And they begin to recognize that both differences and commonalities bring the members of our community together.
