About Reed

At Reed, art majors operate the research reactor and chemistry majors sing in the choir. Students live in the science-themed Mad Science dorm one year and the literature-themed Random House the next. A team of students can build a giant human hamster wheel overnight in the Student Union and a biology major can mount an exhibition for Reed Arts Week.

Although a simple binary has made the so-called right brain a metaphor for creativity and the left the seat of logic, Reed is a place where creativity and logic are part of a seamless educational experience. In this genuine intellectual community, students are pushed to greater heights of learning and forge deeper friendships, and leave Reed prepared to embrace the world and make a difference in it.

Reed is committed to providing a true liberal arts experience. Find out more about our most recent freshman class, our community, and our wonderful location in Portland, Oregon.
