Solar Eclipse Gathering

Join members of the Reed community to experience the first total solar eclipse touching the continental United States since 1979!

Date: Monday, August 21
Location: Rugby field
Time: from 9 to 11 a.m. The partial eclipse begins in Portland at 9:06 a.m., the maximum eclipse will be at 10:19 a.m. (99% in Portland).

Special viewing glasses and food will be provided. We recommend you read in advance how to view the eclipse safely.

Sponsored by Residence Life and the president's office (these offices—along with the student center and Prexy—have glasses on hand currently, while supplies last!).

Other info:

  • Learn more about astronomer Tyler Nordgren ’91 and how he is going above and beyond to celebrate the eclipse
  • In an update to ODOT’s Portland Speed Map, a new statewide layer of data is using near real-time traffic congestion information to reflect movement on roadways throughout Oregon
  • NASA has created an interactive Google map to show the path of the eclipse
