Lecture: Mae Ngai, "The United States as a Nation of Immigrants: A Short History of an Idea"

Mae Ngai is professor of history and Lung Professor of Asian American Studies at Columbia University and is a US. legal and political historian interested in immigration, citizenship, and nationalism. Professor Ngai will compare and contrast the experience and conditions of possibility for socio-economic mobility for the two great waves of labor migrants to the US, those at the turn of the twentieth century and those at the turn of the twenty-first. Sponsored by Phi Beta Kappa and the Reed College history department, American studies program, and office of institutional diversity.
