This event is open to the public.

April 14 is celebrated as the New Year in the Khmer, Cham, Thai, Dai, Lao, Shan, Burmese, Mon, Bengali, Assamese, Boro, Manipuri, Oriya, Telugu, Konkani, Kannadiga, Malayali, Tamil, Tuluva, Sinhalese, Punjabi, Maithili, Marathi, Sindhi, Marwari, Nepali, and Balinese Calendars -- basically, most of South and Southeast Asia -- and this is the first year that Reed is going to put on an event to celebrate it!

Starting at 4 p.m. in front of the SU, we'll be drawing alponas on the street (a South Asian tradition), splashing water on each other (a Southeast Asian tradition), reading poetry, and serving up traditional food.

At 5:30 p.m. inside the SU, we'll have a live bharatanatyam dance performance from a renowned school of dance based in Portland, accompanied by mrdangam drummers visiting from India. Come celebrate with us!
