Goodbye, old friend

It is with great sadness that I invite you to join me in bidding farewell to an old friend. The large bigleaf maple on the SW corner of Eliot has been in decline for many years.  It has been split by weight, cabled between branches, and struggled through wind-blown loss of limb. It has been lovingly pruned and fed, and has entertained squirrels and all of us, as it slowly bent to age and adversity. Now two separate certified arborists have acknowledged it has obtained hazardous-tree status. Due to it's location, it will need to be removed. It has been an iconic monument in our landscape, and we will dearly miss it. Goodbye, old friend.

We will plant another in your honor.
